President Biden Signs Order For Paris Climate Agreement And More

Last Night, Biden made a tweet announcing that “We’re back in the Paris Climate Agreement.”

Joe Biden was sworn in as the 46th president of the United States yesterday (Jan 20). After the highly anticipated inauguration of both Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, Biden went straight to work! Photos of Biden flows onto the internet, showing him in the presidential office signing multiple orders. One order he signed last night notably returns the US to the Paris climate agreement.

“We’re going to combat climate change in a way we have not before,” Mr. Biden said in the Oval Office on Wednesday evening, just before signing the executive orders.

Biden going to work last night led to him signing the climate agreement and others. Furthermore, I’ll be doing a high-level overview of these orders.

Biden Signs The Paris Climate Agreement

By signing the order last night, Biden reverses Trump’s previous orders. This is a big deal! When Trump pulled out of the Paris Agreement, he caused a rift between the United States and the World. Whether you believe in it or not, climate change is happening. That’s why the United Nations signed this agreement, acknowledging the impact it has.

The Paris Agreement is an agreement within the United Nations, signed in 2016. It focuses on climate change while dealing with greenhouse-gas-emissions mitigation, adaptation, and finance. Furthermore, President Biden is moving quickly, saying he plans to sign a sweeping executive order to undo many of the Trump administration’s environmental rollbacks.

In addition to signing the order, Biden will instruct federal agencies to review more than 100 policies. Many of these are crucial to curbing heat-trapping emissions, including fuel economy standards for cars and pollution limits on the oil and gas industry.

In addition to the Climate Agreement, Biden also signed an order that blocks the Keystone XL Pipeline Agreement!

First proposed in 2008, the pipeline has become a symbol of the tensions between economic development and curbing the fossil fuel emissions that are causing climate change. The Obama administration rejected it. However, Donald Trump revived it and has been a strong supporter. With the pipeline being a long-standing controversial issue, some are supportive of the decisions while others are not.

Lastly, during Biden’s first night in office, he also signed other orders. Many of which undid Trump’s previous decisions. From Trump’s travel ban and the halt on the border wall construction, he has also signed orders to extend eviction freezes and the student loan pause.

Now, he just needs to get on to that stimulus check
