Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion’s “WAP” collaboration was never considered for a Grammy because the Bronx rapper didn’t submit the record. During a sit down with Jason Lee for his new REVOLT series, Cardi said she was afraid of the backlash.
She revealed, “You know what? This is something that — it’s like, I need to stop letting the internet control my life,” Cardi told Lee. “Because I didn’t want to submit ‘WAP’ because I was afraid that if I win or if I… You know what’s so crazy? The internet got me even afraid of winning. That is insane.”
Lee shared his reaction when the Invasion of Privacy rapper told him she wasn’t submitting “WAP” for a Grammy. The host said, “I wanted to jump through the phone and scream at you. Because what I loved about this song is that it united two superstars.”
The record-breaking single earned Cardi her fourth number-one record and Megan her second in the United States. The visuals for the sex-positive song featured Kylie Jenner, Normani, Rosalia, Latto, Sukihana, and Rubi Rose.
Elsewhere in the conversation, Cardi B opened up about the moment she and Offset learned about Takeoff’s passing. She recalled, “We just fell asleep and out of nowhere, Offset’s phone kept ringing, my phone kept ringing. Offset picked up the phone and he [was] just like, ‘Noooo,’ and he [was] screaming and screaming. I’m like, ‘What’s going on?’ and he’s like, ‘Takeoff is dead.'”
The raptress said she didn’t initially believe the news. She said, “I smacked him and I said, ‘Don’t say that. Like, don’t say that!’ And then he [was] just screaming and just throwing things, throwing up, running all over and I was so scared,” she said. “I was just crying so much. It was terrible.”
