Donald Trump is Acquitted at Second Impeachment Trial

Donald Trump was acquitted (again) in the historic second impeachment.

A 57-43 majority of the Senate voted to convict Trump of inciting riots at the Capitol. The Senate fell short of the two-thirds majority vote needed to convict the former President.

Trump’s lawyers argued that he called for a “peaceful” protest as he urged supporters to “fight” for the country.

Rioters rampaged through Capitol Hill, leaving five dead and a woman shot by police, disrupting the certification of Electoral votes in search for public officials like Nancy Pelosi, Mike Pence, and more.

Donald Trump Threatens to Launch “MAGA Party” With $70M in Campaign Funds

Donald Trump encouraged his supporters to “fight” and “show strength” after falsely claiming that he was cheated of the 2020 Presidential election. But Trump’s lawyers and most Senate Republicans argued that he couldn’t be held responsible for the mob’s violence.

This was another interesting day in American history because Trump became the first President to be impeached twice, but thankfully for him, both times were unsuccessful.

Donald Trump faced impeachment a year ago for abuse of power and obstruction of justice, and only one Republican joined Democrats voting to convict.
