Kamala Harris Makes History Becoming First Black, Female Vice President of the United States
So much has happened over the long inauguration event this Wednesday. Not only did Vice President Kamala Harris make history, but Joe Biden has also sworn the oath of office. Those are just a few of the memorable moments that happened today. There is a lot to unpack, starting with Lady Gaga singing at the national event.
Lady Gaga Singing & Fashion Choice
With great passion and great fashion, Grammy winner Lady Gaga performed the national anthem today. Not only was her singling impressive, but the huge golden dove brooch she wore was as well.

Miss Gaga was then followed by Jennifer Lopez, dressed all in white. Lopez noticeably threw a line of Spanish into her medley of “This Land is Your Land” and “America the Beautiful”— a pointed nod to multiculturalism. Furthermore, Gaga went on Twitter later to explain the giant brooch accompanying her Schiaparelli haute couture outfit.

Kamala Harris Choice in Purple
Leave it to the first female Vice President Kamala Harris to make a great fashion choice for this inauguration. Along with other politications wearing the royal color, Harris wore a matching coat and dress in the color. Harris’s tailored coat and the matching dress were in a brilliant shade of purple. Along with the matching outfit, she’s also seen wearing her signature pearls, designed by Puerto Rican designer Wilfredo Rosado.
“Purple is the color of loyalty, constancy to purpose, unswerving steadfastness to a cause,” the National Woman’s Party wrote in a newsletter in 1913.

Politicians Color Coordination
Though Dr. Jill Biden coordinated her blue Markarian coat with her husband’s blue Ralph Lauren tie. Furthermore, Michelle Obama, the former first lady, wore wine trousers with a coordinated turtleneck and long coat from Sergio Hudson, a young Black designer.

Of course, masks were also part of the style choices of this inauguration. Noticeably, Dr. Biden wore a sky blue mask that appeared custom-made to match her coat. Other members of her family also made the choice to sport a similar monochromatic theme. As for Ms. Harris, she opted for a shiny black number that complimented her purple outfit, one of her signature mask looks.
Bernie Sanders Staying Warm
While everyone did make statements with their color choices in their outfits, Bernie Sanders decided to keep it cozy. He isn’t normally known for his style choices. However, his choice of accessories may have had the widest impact. Specifically, Mr. Sanders’ woolly mittens seemed to have charmed nearly half the social media world. Many wondered where they could buy their own pair.
Furthermore, Bernie and his mittens received their own hashtag: #Berniesmittens.
