Kanye West and Drake have officially announced their “Free Larry Hoover” benefit concert. The show is set to take place on Dec. 9 at the L.A. Coliseum in Los Angeles. The venue’s event page says that the “historic” show plans to “raise awareness and support for Larry Hoover and the cause of prison and sentencing reform. The show will also be the first time West and Drake have appeared together since their feud ended.
Kanye said in a statement.“I believe this event will not only bring awareness to our cause but prove to people everywhere how much more we can accomplish when we lay our pride aside and come together,”
“After being convicted guilty of murder, conspiracy, extortion, money laundering, and other criminal crimes, Larry Hoover, a former Chicago gang leader, has been in jail since 1973 and is currently serving six life sentences.” Since then, he has distanced himself from Ganger Disciples activities and has worked to reclaim the initials GD as a symbol of growth and development. When Kanye paid a visit to Donald Trump at the White House in 2018 to discuss prison reform, he brought up Hoover’s case. He had planned to start a factory called Larry’s in Chicago and hire former inmates to work there at one point.
Tickets for the Free Larry Hoover Benefit Concert went on sale Monday, Nov. 22, at 1 p.m. ET/10 a.m. PT.
