Young Thug spoke on a panel at the 2021 Revolt Summit in Atlanta. Ryan Wilson, the CEO, hosted the debate and asked Young Thug about Atlanta’s Hip Hop future in the next five to 10 years. Young Thug told Ryan Wilson, “Where New York has always been.”
“I don’t see no other city taking over Atlanta because we steady having new artists come from Atlanta and we’re getting bigger and bigger and bigger. And the biggest artists that’s popping right now are from Atlanta. We gonna keep going higher and higher. I don’t see no other city gaining the #1 spot again. We got it.” Thug added
Gunna, who was sat next to Thug on the REVOLT Summit stage, stated the importance of his hometown as well “Atlanta is everything to me,” said the YSL Records signee. “Because I feel like as a whole, Atlanta is one of the cities that’s really known for just coming up with everything. Lingo, style to clothes to even music now. We’ve got a big impact on music. Like, we’re winning on music right now in Atlanta.
OutKast, Goodie Mob, T.I., Ludacris, Jeezy, and Gucci Mane were all born in Atlanta. Young Thug, Gunna, Future, Migos, 2 Chainz, Lil Baby, 21 Savage, JID, EarthGang, Lil Yachty, 6LACK, Playboi Carti, Latto, Lil Keed, and others came to popularity within the last ten years.
Young Thug album “Punk” reached #1 on the Billboard 200 chart and five songs from the album made it onto the Hot 100 weekly rankings.
