Rihanna Gives Insight on her Upcoming Halftime Performance

Rihanna will return back to the stage for the first time in almost seven years at the Super Bowl for her highly awaited halftime performance.

In a press conference for Apple Music highlighting her upcoming performance, Rihanna says, “When I first got the call to do it again this year I was like, ‘Are you sure? I’m three months postpartum. Should I be making major decisions like this right now? I might regret this.’”

Rihanna, 34, welcomed her first child with rapper A$AP Rocky in May 2022. She says that becoming a mother helped prepare her for her return on stage, and she is ready to return to work.

“The balance is almost impossible because no matter how you look at it, work is always something that’s going to rob you of time with your child,” Riri said.

The toughest challenge that the singer encountered while creating her performance was narrowing down her setlist. The halftime show is set to run for 13 minutes. And with 17 years in the industry and eight albums, trying to pack all of that in one show is hard.

“We did a pretty good job at narrowing it down. There’s probably been about 39 versions of the setlist right now,” the “Work” singer said.

She also revealed that she’ll be adding a lot of her Caribbean culture to the performance, “Representing for my country, Barbados. Representing for Black women everywhere. That’s really important,” she said.
