Second Witness Recants Testimony Against C-Murder

Both key witnesses in the trial against C-Murder for his role in the fatal 2002 shooting in a nightclub.

The Times-Picayune reports that Darnell Jones sent a handwritten letter to the 24th Judicial District Court on Monday (July 2) claiming that the Jefferson Parish Sheriff Office “tricked” him into identifying Corey Miller as the shooter.

Jones alleges police arrested and detained him as a material witness until he agreed to testify against the rapper in his original 2003 trial, which led to a re-trial in 2009 and he was sentenced to life. Jordan also claims his testimony was based on a piece of paper handed to him by Sheriff’s Office Detective Donald Clogher. “I was scared of them,” Jordan wrote in his affidavit. He added, “I am certain that Corey Miller did not shoot Steve Thomas.”

This report comes less than a week after the other witness, Kenneth Jordan, recanted his testimony. He claims the detectives forced him to testify threatening to charge him with the death of his then-recently deceased newborn child. During the 2009 retrial, Jordan told the police his original testimony was false but they forced him to go along with it anyway.
