2020 makes nine years since Vybez Kartel’s incarceration. He was given a life sentence for allegedly murdering his associate Clive “Lizard” Williams. Despite being behind bars he’s still releasing new music, dropping over 50 songs in 2016 alone. He has managed to remain relevant through the years and arguably keep his title as Dancehall King.
Kartel’s music has broken through universal sound waves with hits like “Summertime” and “Fever.” His versatility has allowed him to collaborate with some of the biggest names in music, such as Rihanna, JAY-Z, and Nicki Minaj. The pop group, Fifth Harmony, remade his song “Gon Get Better,” and most recently he was featured on Stylo G’s “Touch Down” with Nicki Minaj released in Decemeber 2018.
