Wale Believes His Dark Complexion Held Him Back in the Rap Game

Wale stopped by The Breakfast Club to talk about everything that’s Hip Hop.

He was asked about an old headlined that stated he felt that he was held back in the rap game due to his dark complexion.

Wale responded saying, “Racial ambiguity helps in anything. Racial ambiguity helps at some level. Even in acting, you can play Italian, Greek, this, that. If you’re Black…Black, Jamaican, African, maybe.” He continued, “It could be for a lot of reasons. I didn’t mean it like the world is racist like racial ambiguity helps a lot, it’s a benefit, I think.”

Charlamagne Tha God went on to ask Wale if he thought J. Cole and Drake being bi-racial is an advantage to them. He quickly responded and said, “I don’t know!”
