BLM only gave Mike Brown Sr. $500 since his son was gunned down in 2014 and he would like more to continue his work in activism.
Mike Brown Sr. and local community organizer Tony Russell, joined forces to get funding from the organization that uses their likeliness to stay afloat.
Russell, who co-founded the International Black Freedom Alliance, released an official statement with Brown Sr. stating their purpose and mission.
The Twitter thread suggests that ever since Mike Brown was gunned down in 2014, the Black Lives Matter organization only granted him $500.
The monetary request is in response to the organization receiving a $90 million donation in wake of the killings of Breonna Taylor, George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, and more.
“On behalf of many activists in the St. Louis area, I’m joined by Mike Brown Sr., the father of Mike Brown Jr. Today, we hold Black Lives Matter accountable,” Russell announced in the video.
BLM co-founder Patrisse Cullors said their goal is to reinvest the money, last year after people began shining a light on the donations they’ve received. “One of our biggest goals this year is taking the dollars we were able to raise in 2020 and building out the institution we’ve been trying to build for the last seven and a half years,” she said, according to theGrio.
