Lil Tjay was arrested on Monday while he was on the way to his “Gangsta Boo” music video shoot in collaboration with Ice Spice. The Bronx rapper was pulled over due to a missing license plate and tinted windows.
Authorities found four handguns inside the SUV, according to ABC7 New York. All five men were arrested and taken into custody. They were then charged with criminal possession of a weapon.
The 21-year-old appeared in Bronx Criminal Court on Wednesday was ordered to be held on $30,000 cash bail and $90,000 bond. But according to NYC Department of Corrections website, Lil Tjay is still being held on Rikers Island. He was expected to be released the same day after his bond was posted by well-known bondsman Ira Judelson.
The rapper has had a rough past couple of months. Lil Tjay, legally Tione Jarden Merritt was shot last year during an alleged robbery attempt in New Jersey. After he was shot, he had to undergo emergency surgery and was in critical condition. After spending less than a month in the hospital, Lil Tjay showed signs of progress. So much so, that he recorded and dropped his song “Beat the Odds” while he was recovering.
