Taraji P. Henson Launches Hair Care Line for Scalp Treatment

Taraji P. Henson Reveals She Contemplated Suicide During the Pandemic

Taraji P. Henson launched her own natural hair care line inspired by her personal problems with her scalp.

The actress’ new brand, TPH, consists of 18 products and it specializes in keeping natural hair textures moisturized under protective hairstyles like braids, weaves, and wigs, as per Stylecaster. The affordable products are all under 15 bucks and they’re color coded into four categories. They also feature cute names like the “Never Salty Scalp Scrub,” “Make it Rain Conditioner,” and “Serene Queen.”

Henson told Allure that there was a lack of product to care for the scalp, which is a problem she was experiencing under her wigs. “The first time I went to get the weave taken out, it smelled like mildew. I was so embarrassed. I was washing my hair, but wasn’t drying the weft,” Henson told Allure. “When you have a weave or an install, your hair is braided down, and then sometimes they sew a hair net down on top of that, and then they sew the hair tracks on top of that. My dilemma was how do I get to my scalp? How do I clean it? I didn’t ever want that mildew smell again.”

She revealed to the outlet that she always had a love for hair and probably would’ve became a cosmetologist if she wasn’t an actress. She used to do her classmates hair during college as a side gig. “I always loved and understood hair,” Henson told Allure. “Growing up, we took (it) very seriously. I was always in a salon every week getting a different hairstyle.”

This is how Taraji P. Henson was able to come up with her own concoction to treat her scalp under her protective styles, which is now known as the “Master Cleanse” in her TPH line. “Women think that just because you have your hair braided up under a weave or wig that you don’t have to (do anything else),” Hensen added in an interview with PEOPLE magazine. “But you have to take care of it,” in particular your scalp.

The hair care line can be purchased online now at Target, and in Target stores starting January 29.
