A trio of criminals stole a live shark from a Texas aquarium by camouflaging it as a child and carrying it out inside a baby’s carriage, as indicated by surprising new reports.
The Saturday evening heist was so strange, nearby police at first thought it was a prank. “When we first got the call, we thought it was kind of a hoax being that it was Shark Week last week,” Leon Valley police Chief Joseph Salvaggio told KSAT TV. “But it turns out someone actually went inside the aquarium there in Leon Valley and stole a horn shark.”
The desperados — two men and a lady — swiped the 1.5-foot predator from an open tank at the San Antonio Aquarium around 3 p.m., with one person snatching its tail while at the same time the other two enveloped it by a killjoy, as per the neighborhood ABC member.
They at that point set the shark-child in a kid buggy and wheeled the trickling pack out of the aquarium undetected before bouncing in a maroon truck, the cops said.
The aquarium’s staff didn’t see their giant fish was missing until 45 minutes later. Police later found the truck and arrested a man of interest but the shark is still at large.
Horn sharks can make due outside of water for a few hours, a wildlife expert revealed to KENS 5 News, so it might still be alive. “We’ll be surprised if the shark survives. We sure hope it does, but being outside of that environment that it’s made to be in — the warm water, the salt water — there’s a good chance it won’t make it,” Salvaggio told KSAT.
