Dallas Cops Issue a Warrant to Search Botham Jean's Home Following his Murder

Words by Andre Kettle

The family of Botham Jean has accused cops on Thursday of smearing the victim ever since an off-duty cop fatally shot him killing him in his own apartment.

Officer Amber Guyger entered the apartment, “mistook” his apartment complex for hers and fired two shots after accusing the victim that he was in her apartment where they both lived, police said.

Police have then released an affidavit stating officers searched his apartment and found marijuana among other things. The document does not indicate to whom the items belong to.

The search warrant listed items recovered such as two bullet casings, a police backpack and vest, and also 10.4 grams of marijuana with a metal marijuana grinder.

“The Police Department Investigators were interested specifically in finding information that could help assassinate his character,” attorney Lee Merritt told reporters.  “To see common assassination, attempt on the victim that we often see in law enforcement involved shootings,” he added.

Allison Jean, the mother of Botham states “I’m calling on the Dallas officials … please come clean. Give me justice for my son because he does not deserve what he got.”

Guyger was charged with manslaughter in the killing of Botham Jean and has since been released on $300,000 bond.

Dallas District Attorney Faith Johnson has said the manslaughter charge against Guyger could be upgraded when her office presents the case to the grand jury.
