Jada Pinkett-Smith Says She Wanted ‘Most Horrific’ Death in ‘Scream 2’

Being the first kill in a Scream movie is often considered to be a great honor in Hollywood. With Drew Barrymore’s holding of this honor after her on-screen death in the first Scream movie, Jada Pinkett-Smith is now revealing just how to determined she was to make her death in Scream 2 one for the books. “I remember saying to the director at the time, ‘I want to die the most horrific death that has ever happened in a horror film,” she said. “I want it to be long and excruciating.”

The Girls Trip actress discussed her vision for the horrific scene with Lola Ogunnaike on the latest episode of People TV’s Couch Surfing. Pinkett-Smith also told the host that director Wes Craven responded to her macabre requests simply by saying, “Cool.” The director’s response makes perfect sense, as Craven is known for his pioneering work in the horror genre, particularly with slasher films.

After an easy and rather straightforward discussion, the scene lived up to Jada’s vision with her character’s murder taking place during the film’s opening in which a couple attends a screening of a film called Stab (Scream 2‘s film-within-a-film).
